Being relatively unheard of in the Netherlands, home education raises many questions. Politicians are also wondering how home education looks in practice. What kind of parents choose to home educate? How do they choose to home educate? How do home educated children obtain diplomas? The new website was created by the Netherlands Association for Home Education to answer these and many more questions. We hope that the website gives a good idea of how home education works in reality.
Flashmob by home educated children and their parents
Such a beautiful new website deserves a festive opening! That is why a group of home educated children and their parents staged a flashmob in the centre of The Hague. They gave two fantastic performances, which required weeks of preparation; one on the Hofplaats and one inside Central Station. Parents and children from all over the Netherlands came together a number of times to brainstorm and practice. It was hard work, but also a lot of fun! These preparations brought together home educated families that had known each other for years and families that had only just met or only had contact through the internet. So, not only was the flashmob the festive opening of the new website, it also connected the home education community.
Flashmob a great success!
And then the big day arrived. We gathered in the morning in the vicinity of Central Station in the Hague. From there we walked in inconspicuous small groups to the Hofplaats.
Braving the cold, we all walked to the Hofplaats. The children were really excited, and so were the parents! It was an amazing experience to suddenly perform a surprise flashmob. Fortunately, everything went according to plan. After a short break we went on to Central Station for a second flashmob amongst the commuters in the station’s central hall. We are very happy with the result!
Now you’re here, why don’t you have a look around the website and find out more about this unique and innovative form of education!

Hi to all the homeschoolers in the Netherlands,
I saw your flash mob – absolutely fantastic way to show the creativity of homeschooling. What a wonderful idea. I am from the USA and have been homeschooling for sixteen years. Congratulations on your new website, and may Christ bless you in your homeschool journey.
